Specialization is for insects

Specialization‘ is required today not because there is ‘more information’ because our educational and political systems create fragmented, narrow-minded, one-sided individuals incapable of becoming a living synthesis of human experience

Most, if not all the greatest thinkers in history (example: Da Vinci, Copernicus, Zhang Heng, Avicenna, Biruni, Khwarizmi, al-Kindi, al-Haytham, etc) were polymaths who delved in many fields rather than specializing in one.

Having knowledge in diverse areas can give a person a unique perspective that many “specialists” don’t see. Profound insights often come about because of connections between disciplines that aren’t apparent to many at first. Though specialists have their place too.
